The news follows the success of Big Brother 9, which ran from July to December 2008 on RTL2, which continuously grew its audience throughout its run, climbing over 40% above the channel's average market share.
Produced by Endemol Germany, Big Brother 10 is set to run across a range of media platforms and will air in a daily prime time slot on RTL2.
Marcus Walter, Managing Director of Endemol Germany comments: "We are extremely proud to be partnering with RTL once again for a landmark tenth series of Big Brother in Germany. This is a show that never fails to draw a large and passionate audience here and we are now focused on making next year's series the biggest yet."
Paul Römer, Chief Creative Officer of Endemol Group adds: "Big Brother is having an extraordinarily successful year around the world. We've seen some of the show's best ever ratings in leading territories like the USA, Spain and Italy, with new runs already secured for 2010 on major broadcasters like CBS and now RTL. With 28 series airing across 67 countries in 2009 there can be little doubt that this format is as strong as ever a decade on from its launch."
Last week CBS in the USA commissioned Big Brother for a 12th series, which will air in 2010. Big Brother 11 is currently this summer's number one entertainment show on CBS across all hours and is frequently in the network's top three shows across all genres. The show has grown + 7% in viewers over the summer 2008 series to an average of 7.1 million viewers across its three weekly installments.
In Italy this year's ninth series of Grande Fratello averaged 6.6 million viewers and a 29.2% market share, becoming the most successful in three years and beating Canale 5's current primetime share by more than 27%. Grande Fratello 10 is now due to launch in October.
In Spain an eleventh series of Gran Hermano launched on September 6 with a record 25.3% share and 3.5 million viewers, scoring 60% above Telecinco's daily average for the month.
2009 also saw Big Brother launch for the first time in new territories such as Israel where it scored record ratings for leading broadcaster Keshet and has been commissioned for a second run, airing this October.
