However, while some are celebrating the new era of optimism that came with the change of government, others are preparing a government coup d'état - and at the centre of it all is the de la Torre family, Madrid’s most influential family.

It’s the spring of 1931, the time of Spain’s Second Republic, a time when Madrid is bustling and its people, alive with their desire for reform and progress, live with unprecedented freedom.

Fernando de la Torre, son and heir of one of the capital’s most prestigious families is certainly enjoying this new freedom and does not want to take on the responsibilities that come with his name and position. He is caught between an arranged marriage to Mercedes León, also a rich heiress, and Alejandra Prado, the caretaker’s republican daughter who reappears in his life. Like the country itself, Fernando is torn between two worlds.
